Tonight I am invited to party. A friend of mine celebrates the 10th anniversary of her shop in Vienna. I thought I would secretly mix some good luck charm into the Erdäpfelkas I prepared for the party. For the next 10 succesful years. (If you happen to be near Neubaugasse in Vienna visit her shop Art Point. And if you want the recipe for Erdäpfelkas you can find it here. If you need it in English drop me a line.)

This first week on the job after the winter holiday felt like boot camp. Today I was really exhausted. And because there was no one around to tell me how great I did I decided to paint a motivational poster for myself.  (Scroll down for download. Just in case you need this as much as I did today.)

Some time ago I saw a picture of a man, naked, in a strange costume. He looked like he came from a different planet. Or from a parallel universe. Later I saw the same picture in a documentary. Then I found even more pictures on the internet. The men on the pictures belonged to an indigenous tribe named Selk’nam. Martin Gusinde, an Austrian priest and anthropologist, visited the tribe around 1920 in Tierra Del Fuego, took the pictures and wrote a book about them. But as early as 1850 the tribe had been almost wiped out because of the colonialisation by latin and European immigrants. At certain ceremonies the Selk’nam did wear masks and painted their bodies.
I took one of their costumes as a template for the plasticine figurine.

I am climbing on the top of storylines, I am falling into the abyss of characters and I am swimming in a sea of narrations. Even after 13 hours of work I still love my job.

Guten Morgen!

Good morning! Nothing tops a breakfast made with love. And now I am saying good bye to my last day of vacation and heading off for work.

Today is my last day of vacation. I am looking forward to working, but I am scared that I will fail to give this project the attention it deserves. That is why I took a photo of my creativity workplace and made a mascot for my purse. May the creative force be with me.

Do you remember Celeste? Today you are looking at the village (=“Dorf“ in german) where she lives. Over there on the left at the river, in the house at the street that leads to the castle. This is where she lives. At the moment Celeste is running through the woods. Because she had a huge fight with her best friend. But that is an entirely different story.

I found an old catalogue from the Viennale Film Festival. As I started working on the stills with my Xacto knife I realized that the images behind the stills tell new stories in combination with those in front of them. This is how TWELVE QUESTIONS came into existence.
