Ich gebe zu dass ich ein Fan von Apple bin. Ich bin vor acht Jahren vom PC auf einen Apple umgestiegen und seither nie mehr zurückgekehrt. Seit einigen Monaten habe ich ein iPad und es hat meinen Workflow revolutioniert wie kein anderes Gerät in den letzten Jahren. Und ich gebe zu dass mich nicht nur die technische Seite fasziniert sondern die Art wie die Produkte verkauft werden, wie das Unternehmen groß wurde, wie es von Steve Jobs geführt wurde. Bei uns hält man Visionen ja für eine Krankheit, ich bin da anderer Meinung.

I have to admit that I am an Apple fangirl. I switched from a PC to my first Mac eight years ago and never went back. I bought an iPad a few months ago and it changed my entire workflow like no other device in the last years. And I have to admit that I am not only fascinated by the technical specs of the products, but also by its marketing, how the company grew and how Steve Jobs lead it to what it is now. Here many people think having a vision is an illness. I beg to differ.

Langsam komme ich dazu die Fotos aufzuarbeiten die sich bei meinen vielen Kurzreisen in den letzten Wochen angehäuft haben. Dieses stammt von einer ganz besonderen Nachtwanderung im Süden von Belgien vor gut einem Monat. Die Stimmung war wirklich gespenstisch.

Slowly I am sorting through photos from my various short trips I took during the last weeks. This one is from a very special night walk in the south of Belgium a month ago. The atmosphere was really spooky.

Heute war ich bei einer Fernsehfilmpräsentation im Metrokino (1893 erbaut, seit 1924 als Theater benutzt, ab 1951 als Kino). Das Metrokino gehört für mich ja zu den schönsten Kinos in Wien. Es gibt aber auch noch ein paar andere wunderbare alte Ein-Saal-Kinos hier, wie das Filmcasino (seit 1911 als Kino benutzt, 1954 renoviert, das großartige Interieur ist immer noch dasselbe) oder das Gartenbaukino (1960 eröffnet, eine riesige Leinwand und immer noch mit derselben großartige Inneneinrichtung wie damals). Ich mag nicht nur die Architektur dieser Kinos sehr, sondern auch die Typografie. Und es gibt noch mehr davon in Wien, die stelle ich euch ein anderes Mal vor.

Today I atended a tv movie presentation at Metrokino (built 1893, used as a theater since 1924, re-opened 1951 as a cinema). For me Metrokino  is one of  the most beautiful movie theaters here in Vienna. But there are some other wonderful old cinemas with only one screen, like Filmcasino (used as a cinema since 1911, rebuilt after the war 1951, and it still has the great interior design from the 1950ies) or Gartenbaukino (built 1960, huge screen, and it still has the beautiful inetrior design from the 1960ies). I do not only like the architecture of those buildings, but also the fonts. And there are some more cinemas like this in Vienna, which I will introduce to you later.

Ich bin dann doch noch aufs Hafelekar gefahren. Dort oben auf über 2200m war es zwar sehr idyllisch, die Alpendohlen haben den Gipfel umkreist, die Luft war ganz klar und die Sicht berauschend, aber irgendwie hatte ich dann doch sehr schnell eine Sehnsucht nach dem unendlichen Horizont des Ozeans. Die Berge und ich, wir haben eine ziemlich komplizierte Beziehung.

I finally went up to Hafelekar. It was quite idyllic 2200m above the sea. The alpine choughs were flying around the mountaintop, the air was very clear and the view breathtaking, but somehow I immediately developed a strong desire for the infinite horizon of the ocean. My relationship with mountains is quite complicated.

Ich habe ja vor langer Zeit mal für zwei Jahre in Innsbruck gewohnt. Aber leider mag ich keine Berge, und noch dazu ist die Nordkette in der Stadt… naja, sagen wir mal: sehr dominant. Wenn ich damals aus dem Haus gegangen bin habe ich mir vorgestellt dass lauter kleine Männchen die Nordkette herabgestürmt kämen, dann waren die Berge nicht mehr ganz so bedrohlich.

A long time ago I lived in Innsbruck for two years. Unfortunately I do not like mountains, and the Nordkette (a chain of huge mountains in the north of Innsbruck) is… let’s say „very visible“ in town. When I walked out of my house I sometimes imagined little people storming down the Nordkette. Then the mountains would not be so scary any more.

In Salzburg steht neben dem Dom eine Pietà-Statue von Anna Chromy. Irgendetwas zieht mich immer wieder hin zu ihr.

There is a statue next to the big cathedral in the old town of Salzburg. It is called Pietà by Anna Chromy. Somehow I am drawn to it every time I walk by.

In den 1990er Jahren habe ich einige Zeit als Regieassistentin an verschiedenen Theatern gearbeitet. Nachdem mich zwei Freunde aus der Zeit zu ihren Stücken eingeladen haben trete ich eine Reise in meine Theatervergangenheit an. Ich bin schon gespannt was passiert. (Manchmal habe ich auch mitgespielt, wie hier in dem Kinderstück. Ich weiß noch dass ich damals in der Maske eines Tages meine ersten grauen Haare entdeckt habe. Das war so etwa 1997, ich war 23 und hatte danach einen leichten Schock.)

In the 1990ies I worked a s an assistant director at several theaters.  When two of my friends from that time invited me to their plays I went on a journey to my past at the theater. I am curious what happens next. (Sometimes I was also acting, like in this kid’s play. I remember that one day when I was doing my make up I discovered my first grey hairs. It must have been around 1997, I was 23 years old and panicked.)
