My friends from Alpine Gothic are staying in Vienna right now with their Edelweiss carving workshop. After a few tries I managed to make a recognizable Edelweiss flower for their art project. The carving workshop will go on for the next two days at the market stall no.36 at Vorgartenmarkt. You can find more details here and here, and some photos from today here. After your carving experience I recommend walking to Mexikoplatz where the four day festivities for the Kuba mosque are going on right now. You have to try Lahmacun, it is delicious!
I am preparing for a presentation of Be Creative in my friends‘ studio, so I am printing all(!) Be Creative projects. Sometimes there are printing accidents, like double exposures. And all of a sudden there were all these tiny creatures crowding the image. I think I have to go to bed now.
In the sunbathing area at the Alte Donau there suddenly appeared 18 wild geese. They were having dinner on the lawn (or rather: the lawn was their dinner to be precise). They reminded me of that cartoon series from my childhood, an adaptation of the novel „Nils Holgersson“. But when I shouted „Akka!“ none of the geese turned her head.
To celebrate the 150th Be Creative posting I wanted to buy a red dress. But instead I came home with three dark blue dresses that fit perfectly to the five new dark blue dresses in my closet. I really don’t know what it is with my obsession for dark blue.
Today Anouk made new friends. Their names are Petter and Sindre. Although Anouk really tried her best to get Petter to talk he decided to stay silent. Obviously he is very shy. And Sindre also behaved a little bit odd. When Anouk was looking away for a short moment he made a very weird sound, and suddenly there was this strange pile of white grains laying on the ground. Let us see how this friendship develops. Anouk is still a bit sceptical.
Today I saw a very odd find. During construction work in an old manor house in England workers found several boxes in the very last corner of the attic. Inside were lots of ethnological artefacts, inventoried and carefully packed. The labels are in German, and a first trail leads to a small museum in the neighbourhood of the house. I will follow up the investigation and let you know what is behind this curious find.
Last night the power supply of my Macbook Pro stopped working. Needless to say that it is weekend and all shops are closed. To be able to continue the Be Creative challenge, Anouk and I unearthed my old G4 Powerbook. But you have to be patient, working is not so easy with these prehistoric tools.
Yesterday friends invited me for a cooking game. We were teaming up in two groups and competing against each other at cooking one portion of a dish suited for a certain theme. I had to go to the kitchen first, and you can see in the picture what I made for the theme „thundercloud“. (It looked more beautiful in reality, but we forgot to take a picture, so you have to be satisfied with the painting and can guess which of these ingredients are to be found where: zucchini, red pepper, orange pepper, small shrimp, toast, asian noodles.)
If you also want to play this cooking game (which I strongly recommend, it is a lot of fun!) you can read the detailed rules on the bottom of the page.
Spielregeln:
Rules:
There should be an even number of participants. At first everyone writes down his/her name on a small paper and puts it in a small bowl. Then everyone writes down a theme on another sheet of paper and puts it in a different bowl. You can be very creative with your themes, we had things like „thundercloud“, „There is no sin up on the alp“, „building site – parents are responsible for their children’s actions“.
Now you are teaming up in two groups by drawing names from the first bowl. Then – again by drawing a name – you are naming a chef for each group. Each chef then elects an assistant from their own team. Then you draw two themes from the second bowl. By voting you elect one theme (the other theme is dropped and won’t come up again).
Both chefs are entering the kitchen with their assistants and have exactly 15 minutes to use the avaiable ingredients to cook one portion of a dish that fits the theme. After 15 minutes all the participants who are sitting in the other room have to close their eyes as the two plates are served, so nobody knows who cooked what. Because now the voting starts. Everyone who had not been in the kitchen during this round can give one point to their favourite dish. They have to say why they are giving their point to a certain dish regarding the presentation, how it suits the theme and of course the taste.
You are continuing with the same procedure until there are no themes left (so 10 participants lead to a 5 course meal). Everyone will be drawn as a chef only once, but you can be elected as an assistant several times (or never).
The team with the most points wins in the end, but actually it is more about the fun. And you will have lots of fun! (And you will realize that all your friends are good cooks especially when under time pressure, and that you can cook the most amazing things in 15 minutes!)
Today I was wearing a red dress, rode on a train where you could still open the windows and was invited for a shot of Slivowitz in the evening. None of these events were related.
Today Anouk celebrated Towel Day. She hoped that a spaceship would come by and pick her up for a hitchhike through the galaxy, but nobody came. Actually she might be better off that way – who wants to listen to Vogon poetry anyway?
